Objects As History (Week 3)

It is quite fascinating that how Mesopotamian civilization changed the track of the development of the humans. Mesopotamian civilization is one of the most important step of development of humans. A lot happened during this civilization. Development of irrigation and new planting techniques which led to the surplus of food, which meant fewer people were needed to farm. As a result, new occupations started developing. Canals were made to decrease the flood level of Tigris and Euphrates rivers. During this civilization the concept of rule and hierarchy also took place. Kings were believed to be the messenger of gods. Establishment of music and script also took place which led to documentation that’s why we have so much info about the Mesopotamian civilization and their culture. The advanced level of maths and science was also there which helped them to measure time. Its due to them we have a proper system to measure time because it started from Mesopotamian civilization only. The first epic of all time was from this civilization time “The Epic Gilgamesh.” Its a short story of the king called Gilgamesh. We can also see that later time of this civilization had a set of rules and regulations because city-states and empires were developed. This civilization helped a lot to develop humans as well as their surroundings also.
