Space and Materiality (week 2)

What a product should have? How can you explore it? How to get ideations? What are the challenges one face while dealing with a particular material? How can material selection help you to its optimum?
These are some question a product designer faces while designing a product. There are many more challenges but these are some of the basic and foremost questions I faced while working on my first project. We have to design a tea coaster and have to make it using M.D.F board. The size of the coaster has to be 4*4 inch. It’s really challenging when you have restrictions and you have to solve it in the most productive way. We have to make two coasters, so the first step was to design it. The key steps to designing a product are
1) who is the user?
2) purpose to accomplish
3) what will be the environment?
These three things one should think about before designing a product. Then he should get an inspiration from anywhere. As I have designed coasters for the household purpose but one for the modern house and one for the traditional one. I got my inspiration from a duct vent for the modern one and traditional one was inspired by skeleton leaf. Then carrying their sense I explored them because exploring one of the most effective ways to get ideas. So once I explored, I got satisfied with a design. Once you follow the process it’s much easier to find what you want. M.D.F is much easy to work with as compared to other material because neither it’s too fragile nor too hard. You can easily cut it, shape it, and play with it. One of the challenges was as if you don’t know how to use hand tools, you will need machinery to do it but everyone doesn’t have machinery. So one gets dependable on one of the nearby workshops to work or one have to buy the machinery which will cost him high.

Drawing (week 1)

What’s a talent which we have since our birth? I think it’s drawing, it’s something a person have since birth because every child draws something whether it’s meaningful or not. To it’s loved ones it does have some meaning but to others, it’s just a scribble. Some of us carry on that gene in their blood and somebody forgets them.
Drawing means different to different persons, for some its mode to express and for some its perception of how he looks to the world. As we played with highlights and shadows to make anything. It’s challenging when you can’t use outlines and you have to draw something. Drawing is an elegant way to express your mood and emotions. It’s not only about a picturesque sketch, sometimes its just random strokes having a deep meaning in it. Some artist uses abstract to showcase their perspective on the world. Some have an accurate and vibrant way to draw. From abstract to realism every artist holds a different sense of art. All of them are highly appreciated though some of them have a really different taste. Its one of the explicit way to express and communicate.

Imaging (week 1)

Our world is growing in the field of digital arts and advertising because nowadays visual information is more preferable than other forms of information. People don’t have time to read long paragraphs and articles instead of it they will prefer to have a visual interpretation of that information.
One of the most used software is adobe photoshop in the visual field. Its used by many designers and photographers for the creation of their gems. For some, it’s an easy software and for some its bit typical to understand. It’s a very versatile and potent software. The new version of photoshop is tremendous. It’s really a change if we see the previous version of Photoshop, adobe cc is a major upgrade. It’s having many new features and quite an easy interface.
Photoshop is an editing software also used for creating manipulation. Photoshop had set the benchmark for other editing software. I personally use photoshop and some of the features, I like are masking, blending modes, gradience tool, clone stamp tool and much more. I don’t use photoshop at a pro level, just a beginner but it’s quite nice to me till yet. It’s really helpful in making visual stuff. One in designing, photography, and visual arts field should know how to use photoshop. I think it’s useful or mandatory for them in present time.

Strategy with Gaming (week 1)

Life these days need more activeness. One should have a sound mind and sound body for an easy-going day. Having a lubricated mind and body is a step closer to a successful and happy life.
Planning is also a ladder to the desired destination because without planning and strategy a task is far challenging to accomplish. For a smooth success, one should have a decent strategy to accompany. Healthy body and planning will make your life happier than ever.
One of the things which teach us strategy and build up our body and mind is games. Games is a more fun way to learn strategy and be healthy. One should at least play a game on regular basis. This will let body and mind exercise regularly. We played a game “no thanks” which is an indoor game. Here is the link, if you want to know more about the game https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12942/no-thanks
This game taught us some amazing strategical skills that how to manipulate others to make a wrong move, risking the move in the game can lead to victory, how to plan the moves for better result and much more.
The game also improves bonds between the teammates and even between opponent player because it’s a game not necessary to hold it up too seriously. A strategy is also a major factor to make your design successful because if u have a definite path or strategy for the accomplishment of your design it will be faster and more efficient. Your work will also be on time which is loved by a client so much.

Sci-fi (week 1)

Nowadays sci-fi is a trend, everyone like to watch sci-fi movie whether it’s a kid or a gentleman. Sci-fi is something related to science mixed up with imagination.
Sci-fi movies are an innovation for today’s technology and imagination. Sci-fi movies are beyond the reality. It’s a mixture of engineer’s technology and designer’s thinking. They both blend their hard work to make a masterpiece that makes us feel that this could be true. It’s just a beautiful visual reality that mesmerizes us but it requires lots of labor. Many setups are required to build a scene. From digital characters to realistic setups all are the major components of a sci-fi movie. It’s surprisingly interesting to watch behind the scenes of a movie or the making of a sci-fi movie. How many efforts are required to make a scene realistic, so that the audience can digest whats happening. The team spends weeks to make a clip of a few seconds.
The story plays a vital role to make a movie successful. It should be real enough to make sense to the audience. People should appreciate the concept of the movie, it’ polt, and it’s climax. A sci-fi movie should have its heroic essence in it because that makes it different from other genres. Movie or comic make them believe that there are aliens and humans can fight with them with some supernatural powers, this is the strength of the movie or comic to manipulate a person.

Integrative Studio (week 1)

What I understood by far is it’s about how critically u can think.
We have plenty of feelings related to a moment, thing, or a person. Some of them are good and some of them are not so good. So are we capable of expressing them? Can we find an appropriate expression for a situation? Can we tell the exact emotion that we sense? It’s difficult to convey the emotions u sense or u sensed. And when we have to communicate it through design it’s a lot more complicated. Colour is a prime factor to express the emotions. Without colours, it’s a bit playful. A set of lines can express a emotion. A meaning of dots can change relative to their density but the most interesting part is to see how it alters. The weight of line can also make a drastic change to its meaning. Sometimes a pattern can have a deep sense secreted in it. Sometimes a smudged line can also make a difference to your expression. As our task was to derive some emotions from multiple situations and express them through lines and dots. Firstly, it was troublesome to find proper emotions and then it was difficult to display them through lines and dots. The situations were as follows:-
1) state of mind in the morning
2) your happy place
3) image of ISDI
4) view from my window
5) highlights of the journey to school on that day
6) hometown
I brought up with many solutions to it but it took lots of time for it. This exercise indeed opened up our mind and some of the possible outcomes I came out with, are mention below:-

Integrative Seminar (week 1)

According to me, it’s about how to present yourself and how different people have a different perspective over the same thing.
Design typically based on a process, thinking, ideas, observation, and inspiration. Firstly, a designer should have quality observational skills. He should explore each and every aspect of his environment. From there he can be inspired by anything. Inspiration attributes to a design. Every designer or artist gets inspiration from something before making their masterpieces. After getting inspired by something, he starts thinking over it and builds up many ideations on it. Then after exploring many of his ideations, he comes to a final idea which he further processes and makes an impressive design.
In our world, we have many different designs for a single element because every person has a different perspective to see. Some of them feel positive about a design, while others don’t appreciate it. So different people lead to different conclusions. None of them are wrong, they are just different in taste. So this leads to a new demand for them who didn’t like the last one. This evolves a design, and we get an improved version of the same article. So this is how we get plenty of designs as different persons have different mindsets to a single screen.
Exhibiting a design also plays a crucial role in working life. If you made a masterpiece and you can’t sell it, it’s of no use. A designer works to solve a problem. If it can’t serve to the purpose it’s trash.
