What a person thinks of himself is directly related to how he behaves. To be confident and successful one should be aware of his weakness and strengths. So one should know ” Who am I” to live a comfortable and sound life.
If somebody will ask me to define myself, it will be a bit easier for me than to describe myself with the help of objects and their properties. Like metaphors, if somebody will ask you to state yourself with the help of metaphors. It will be tough and if you also have to visualize those metaphors than it will be more challenging. So our assignment for week 3 was to define “Who am I” with the help of metaphors and also want to convert them into 2D abstract forms. It was important that the 2D abstract should justify your expression and the metaphor we were using. It was tough to find a balance between both of them but that’s the exercise was about. We explored each and every bit of us to find a balanced and suitable metaphor for ourselves and for me it’s tough to state or describe myself. I am so confused about myself, I realized it. This tells us design starts with you.

Space and Materiality (week 4)
How a person can a person show what he can’t tell or don’t want to express by words. There are so many feelings that we can’t express through words. So what will be the other ways to state them.
I think visually because communicating through visuals are much more powerful than words. It can be depicted directly by drawing undeviatingly what you want to communicate or some people choose indirect ways like abstractions. Abstractions express different feelings to different persons. For some, a visual can be positive but for some, the same vision can be negative. So its a task to convey the same feelings to different people through abstraction. That was our assignment to convert our handgrips which I talked about in my last Space and Materiality (week 3) into a 2d abstract. It’s challenging for us to convey the right message to all of them without presenting the actual message. We have to present the hand grips into abstract form. Mind goes for a walk when we start thinking because then you have to think about each and every aspect of the situation. It’s hard to make the meaning available to all kind of people. Every person has a different perspective on the same thing. It was a challenge for us. A designer should know how to express himself without getting too direct or in a creative way.
Integrative Seminar (week 3)
How can we characterize ourselves? We can tell them directly by describing your characteristics and hobbies. If I have to explain myself some of the points that I will put in front of you will be that I am a simple person, speaks too much, straightforward, little bit self-confident, and reflects too much. These are some basic opinions one have about me if he meets me once or he knows me. We were told to portray ourselves in something other than direct characters. We also played with metaphors. It was a challenging task to do. The question of the class was “Who am I”. So some of the metaphors I used for myself were ‘eye of the flash’, ‘sarcasm of the news’ and much more. So I tried to define myself using my caricature. My mouth is bigger than real to show mine over speech and straightforwardness. My head is also larger to show my overthinking. The smile on the face shows fun and light nature. Also having that confidence on my face. This was my first try to digital painting and caricature making.
Space and Materiality (week 3)
In this upgrading world, we have many upcoming technologies that will make our life more simple. One of the well-known physics is Haptics. It’s the science of touch, a connection between two things. When we touch, grip, hold etc. a particular object it has a certain texture and feels. We can distinguish objects by their grips, texture, method to hold and much more relevant to touch. There are many things we do with the help of touch, sene and hold. Haptics is just going to another level where we create the sense of touch without actually touching the object. We have a lot of touch or grips. We just explored some interesting grips such as the accelerator of the bike, rotating a screwdriver, carrying a bag or basket, holding a phone, pressing a thumb pin, holding a ball, pushing a table, holding a spoon, pulling a chain and many more. They all need different hand postures to grip them to perform them. Haptics in near future will give us some mind-blowing and easy access to these things. Drawing (week 2)
A designer should know how to sell his idea and to sell his concept. He has to put up his purpose in front of the public. One of the fastest ways is by visual interpretation. If you also work in a design firm, you first have to explain the idea to your colleagues and seniors. To make them clear about what you want, you have to interpret your idea. For exploration and to tell your designs at an elementary level, you have to tell them by a rough basic sketch called a doodle. In which it has just basic and main elements to sense what is there on the mind of the maker. So I am also traversing the same stage of exploration, struggling with my own doodle to make them more communicative. They are fast sketches to just record the information. So we were wandering on the street to designate the streets in just 5 min. I am having some of my fast doodles which I made while on the streets and stations of Mumbai. It was a challenge to doodle not in a comfortable but in a such a dramatic situation where people were passing by and you couldn’t even ask them to pause for a minute or two and you have to record them. These are some of my doodles.
Strategy with Gaming (week 2)
Gaming teaches us teamwork which is essential not only in games but also in daily life. We often face some points in life in which we have to work in a team. One should have the experience to work in an organization. Designing also have many group projects so one should have the habit of teamwork.
We played Code Name which is a team based game. If you want to know about the game then, click on the link https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/178900/codenames. This game teaches us that one should have the communication with his teammates. We faced lots of problems while communicating with the spymaster. This game also tested our logical mind. As the spymaster has a logical connection with the spy and we also wanted to guess that logic. One should also have a good vocabulary to guess the connections. Spymaster should also give a simple clue which can connect to multiple words at a time. And if the teammates guess the wrong word it will be a problem for them and points for another team, even a victory. So mindset should be the same to conquer the game. This is how teamwork can help you build up your game.
Sci-Fi (week 2)
Sci-Fi is too old it is possible that some of our elders were an immense admirer of science fiction. What are the things which make us watch the sci-fi? I think the story it is one of the foremost thing needed for any movie. It’s not only about sci-fi, every comic or movie requires a good storyline to work on. Secondly, for a sci-fi movie characters are the most attracting feature. Kids usually love a movie because of the hero and its superpower. A kid always sees himself as his favorite character and admire his powers as his own. One of the popular trends is parodies of famous movies. As Spaceballs parody of The Star Wars was as loved as Star Wars. It was an entertaining movie which made the audience laugh. So parodies are also one of the concepts for stories in which u have to just mold a story into an interesting one. The parodies don’t need powerful character but it needs an attractive one to hold up the movie. So one should have the clear sense of the sci-fi to make a start his journey in it. A parody also can be a disaster if not performed properly. So the story writer should have a clear and distinct sense to make an outstanding piece of script. Sci-Fi is a typical form of writing because it’s a combination of technical and imaginary platforms. So one should make a sci-fi which is technically digestible with out of the box imagination.
Integrative Studio (week 2)
Can we know about a person by just meeting him once? I think we can not, even remembering his name will be difficult for us in just a meet. We can perceive somethings from that but not sufficiently. What if every person carries a name batch with himself. I know it sounds awkward but what if it can be fun. One of the challenges we face in the integrative studio (week 2). We have to make a batch showing our name with the help of lines and dots, and this was a challenge. It seems weird to listen with the help of dots and lines one has to tell their personality and it is a tough job to do. It just makes you insane to show you with the help of not even words, with the help of lines and dots. As I am a little bit-tech type person, sorted from outside but confused from inside and my thoughts are like an unsolved puzzle, not connected to each other. I also think I am focused on my targets. So I designed a name batch for myself in which dots are showing my unsortedness and lines are showing that I am straightforward. Its perspective view is to show my focused life. I used a tie to determine my formal behavior.
And this is some of my Dot and line exercise with there 3D illustration (WEEK 1)
Space and Materiality (week 2)
What a product should have? How can you explore it? How to get ideations? What are the challenges one face while dealing with a particular material? How can material selection help you to its optimum?
These are some question a product designer faces while designing a product. There are many more challenges but these are some of the basic and foremost questions I faced while working on my first project. We have to design a tea coaster and have to make it using M.D.F board. The size of the coaster has to be 4*4 inch. It’s really challenging when you have restrictions and you have to solve it in the most productive way. We have to make two coasters, so the first step was to design it. The key steps to designing a product are
1) who is the user?
2) purpose to accomplish
3) what will be the environment?
These three things one should think about before designing a product. Then he should get an inspiration from anywhere. As I have designed coasters for the household purpose but one for the modern house and one for the traditional one. I got my inspiration from a duct vent for the modern one and traditional one was inspired by skeleton leaf. Then carrying their sense I explored them because exploring one of the most effective ways to get ideas. So once I explored, I got satisfied with a design. Once you follow the process it’s much easier to find what you want. M.D.F is much easy to work with as compared to other material because neither it’s too fragile nor too hard. You can easily cut it, shape it, and play with it. One of the challenges was as if you don’t know how to use hand tools, you will need machinery to do it but everyone doesn’t have machinery. So one gets dependable on one of the nearby workshops to work or one have to buy the machinery which will cost him high.
Drawing (week 1)
What’s a talent which we have since our birth? I think it’s drawing, it’s something a person have since birth because every child draws something whether it’s meaningful or not. To it’s loved ones it does have some meaning but to others, it’s just a scribble. Some of us carry on that gene in their blood and somebody forgets them.
Drawing means different to different persons, for some its mode to express and for some its perception of how he looks to the world. As we played with highlights and shadows to make anything. It’s challenging when you can’t use outlines and you have to draw something. Drawing is an elegant way to express your mood and emotions. It’s not only about a picturesque sketch, sometimes its just random strokes having a deep meaning in it. Some artist uses abstract to showcase their perspective on the world. Some have an accurate and vibrant way to draw. From abstract to realism every artist holds a different sense of art. All of them are highly appreciated though some of them have a really different taste. Its one of the explicit way to express and communicate.
