Time (Week 4)

This week, I again worked on my narrative because faculty suggested me that the narration is not coming out through the photographs and they are bit complex to show what I want to show through them. So I just added more sense to it by changing the sequence and by adding some more elements to it to fill the gaps which were missing. The order now is showing the origin and different possibilities of the journey of the droplet.try 3.jpg

Time (Week 3)

This week we have to create a narrative through photographs on our abstract concept of time to show how we can tell more interestingly or how we can communicate without speaking. My first try was an epic fail because I tried something which I have never done before. I tried to draw with water using droplets and food color because the only thing we could do is pre-edit. I tried to capture the colorful side of water and time together. Then another try with some simple monochromatic photographs. I that discussed with my faculty, and she suggested some change. I used a drop to tell my story of possibilities that how a drop goes through a series of possibilities or I can say permutation and combination. The monochromatic scheme is also used to give the audience of a room of imagination where they can think the color scheme that they want to.DSC_0038try 1 collage

Time (Week 2)

This week was about brainstorming and coming up with a concept that how we can measure time other than literal way. It was quite difficult to come up with an idea which can tell such a big concept in another way, that too not literal. So I thought of ‘what if,’ this concept is about how we can measure time with the help of possibilities. We often think about if I have done this, or if I do this, or will do this. Here we can see different possibilities in these two words ‘what if.’ Also, it is showing the time and possibilities have the power to change the timeline with a slight change in decision or destiny. Adding ‘what if’ to any time will give us another perspective.

Time (Week 1)

Time can be a literal concept for the estimation of a span. But its a debatable thing is it all about the measurement of a span. I think it’s about the existence because freezing of time can destroy the whole universe. It’s a cycle which needs to revolve on and on. Time can be as abstract, or as vast we can think, so week 1 was about this only. We discussed about how we can define time in different ways, or what can be the time in different contexts. But when we discussed it on and on we realized its infinite and its a cycle which is repeating itself. As it was our first day of discussion, it was something too heavy to think about it in detail but one thing I realized it is something which travels back and forth until external interference is not there.

Objects As History (Week 4)

Burial system during Mesopotamia
It is quite shocking for me that they believed that people go to a dark world for their life after death. People who were not royal were buried below the family home or next to it so that the grave could be regularly maintained. Another shocking fact is that they believed that if the person was not buried properly, they could return as a ghost to haunt the living. This thing makes me more curious, what could be the circumstances that made them believe in this. They believed that the proper place for the souls of the dead was in the netherworld of the goddess of Ereshkigal. What could be the reason for this, did they worship evil more than god? There could be a possibility that they were haunted by the evil that’s why they believed so. According to the historian Will Durant, “the Sumerians believed in an after-life but like the Greeks; they pictured the other world as a dark adobe of miserable shadows, to which all the dead descended indiscriminately.”

Objects As History (Week 3)

It is quite fascinating that how Mesopotamian civilization changed the track of the development of the humans. Mesopotamian civilization is one of the most important step of development of humans. A lot happened during this civilization. Development of irrigation and new planting techniques which led to the surplus of food, which meant fewer people were needed to farm. As a result, new occupations started developing. Canals were made to decrease the flood level of Tigris and Euphrates rivers. During this civilization the concept of rule and hierarchy also took place. Kings were believed to be the messenger of gods. Establishment of music and script also took place which led to documentation that’s why we have so much info about the Mesopotamian civilization and their culture. The advanced level of maths and science was also there which helped them to measure time. Its due to them we have a proper system to measure time because it started from Mesopotamian civilization only. The first epic of all time was from this civilization time “The Epic Gilgamesh.” Its a short story of the king called Gilgamesh. We can also see that later time of this civilization had a set of rules and regulations because city-states and empires were developed. This civilization helped a lot to develop humans as well as their surroundings also.

Objects As History (Week 2)

Burials during Stone Age
It is very interesting that humans are practicing burial rituals since the stone age. The hominid also knew the consequences of not disposing of the body in a proper manner. According to history, they buried the bodies because they believed in life after death, but there could be a possibility that the surrounding people suffered from infection because of these dead peoples, but chopping off the legs is something that can be a questionable thing in this case, that why did they cut the legs of the dead person. Another shady thing is why they believed in life after death, did they feel the presence of any spiritual beings, it could be a possibility that they misunderstood the natural calamities with spiritual attacks and there is a possibility that there could be some suspicious activities.

Objects As History (Week 1)

Why do we need to study History?
The most vital reason to do so is to identify mistakes of the past and to avoid their repetition in the present and future.
As we can see that humans have evolved themself with the passage of time. They developed themselves and also their surrounding by learning from the past. As we study history, we can clearly see how humans evolved from a wheel to automatic motorcar. So the study of history is important for more and more development of the humankind.
We started from Stone Age, from this we learned how people lived during those times when they had no sources. At the early stages of Stone Age, they were food gatherers and used basic tools for their protection.
Then we can see a significant change when we shift from Paleolithic to Neolithic stone age. They started food gathering, fishing, and hunting for the survival. Also, the tools were more advanced than Paleolithic with a much wider range of their use. The wheel was invented in the Neolithic age. They also started developing shelters which indicated that they were settling at a place for a much longer time.
Then comes the Chalcolithic age, this age witnessed the emergence of metal with stone. Humans also developed new techniques like pottery. With all this development there was the beginning of social inequalities. People started believing in life after death. Started practicing burial system, that was different for different regions.

Imaging (Week 4)

This week we worked on how to collaborate text with images to tell a story. Placement of elements makes it more appealing to eyes plus also make it more convenient for the person to understand the flow of it. We explored how differently we can place an image so that it can change the orientation of the publication and also the flow of reading. To make the audience see the photograph first and then read the text or vice versa or person should be equally focusing on both of them. It also tells us about the importance of the image that if the article is about the image, then the size of the image will be bigger and when the image is an element in the text, then the size of the image will be smaller.

Imaging (Week 3)

To start with Indesign, we have to explore different types of publications. So this was our motive for week 3 to understand the layout and orientation of a publication. We explored different publications that are text heavy. Then from those, we had to choose one publication and work on its text orientation, spacing, font size, the weight of the font and much more to understand that how the placement of the text can make a publication more appealing. The text can also tell u more about a book, like a genre and the mood of it. If it’s a romantic novel, then the text will be cursive. If it’s documentation or biography, then the text will be rigid and concrete. If it’s a comic, mostly it will be comic sans. The text also tells us about what should be the flow of reading. It also tells us about what’s more important, and whats need to highlight.try 1try 12
